Today the swedish police announced that they will add The Pirate Bay to their big bad list of child pornography websites after receiving complaints from "the public". The operators of The Pirate Bay responded by pointing out that they remove any child porn found on the website if this is reported to them but that the police have not contacted them in any way.
The result of the swedish police adding The Pirate Bay to their list of child pornography websites would be that all major swedish ISPs would redirect all DNS requests for the website to a special website that informs the user of their attempt to access a blocked website containing child pornography. This block in itself is pretty pointless as anyone using a DNS server outside the control of any swedish ISPs would still be able to get to the website.
Several major swedish newspapers have reported this news, among them The Local, Svenska Dagbladet, Expressen, Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet. The story has also been commented on by the Pirate party and IDG.
